Hi everyone! Kim here with our next Detail of the Month. I think you'll love this one as much as we loved having this car in our shop for a month.
In this house we all have a serious love and appreciation for the all-mighty Ford Mustang. And that is why our May 2022 Detail of the Month is this 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in Anti-Matter Blue! It's Ford's most powerful street-legal vehicle ever produced, and a track car for the owner. After a few track sessions without any protection, this Shelby definitely needed some Superior Detailer love. Everyone on the Superior Detailer team played a major role in correcting and protecting this track monster.
As the vehicle was tracked without protection, it did incur some paint damage. So, the owner had the several panels of the vehicle re-sprayed before scheduling with us. After a phone consultation and several e-mail communications, the owner settled on our favorite and most popular protection package for sports and track vehicles.
Here is a list of what we did to the vehicle:
The team performed a thorough Aenso wash and decon process before paint correction work began. This process includes detailing the suspension with the wheels removed, cleaning calipers and the engine bay. This is the first wash, performed prior to paint correction work. See photos below.
The process of completely cleaning and detailing to this level is our standard for all major projects. Like Steve always says, "Clean cars drive better." When we remove wheels and coat the calipers, we coat the entire caliper. As seen in the Before/After below, we fully detail the caliper before applying our Modesta BC-06 coating.
As mentioned above, the vehicle was tracked a few times before it came to us. The front end was also re-sprayed. So, you can imagine the level of correction work needed to bring the paint up to SD standards before protection. Karim and Gui both attacked this paint work at different stages and over multiple days.
The front, unfortunately, received some chips on the hour drive to our shop for drop-off. We fix minor chips before PPF application and as part of our Paint Correction service.
Karim and Gui correct the paint work, meaning they remove defects and restore the paint to a better-than-new luster. The result is paint work that is completely free of scratches and defects, and provides a perfect foundation for our Modesta coatings. This process is extensive and takes multiple passes and multiple days.
Karim has been dissecting paint work for almost 20 years. With Gui, he is constantly redefining processes as paint work, tools, and products continue to evolve. This service is his signature and one that he is most passionate about.
We applied Xpel Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film (PPF) to the full hood, front fenders, front bumper, mirrors, headlights, fog lamps, A-pillars, partial roof, rocker panels, rear splash, doors and lower trunk lid. The amount of protection is preferred for track days and will protect all the major impact areas from rock chips and track road grime.
We perform custom applications to most areas for a nearly invisible fit.
We also applied STEK DYNOflex Windshield Protection film to the windshield. Like PPF, the STEK film protects the pricey windshield from chips and nicks that can easily occur on the highway or track. We install windshield protection film as an add-on service for our clients with sports or track cars, or exotics.
Karim and I tag-teamed the protection film install on this one. I tend to focus more on the little details where he specializes in handling the bigger, more cumbersome pieces. I just think I'm a bit more detail-oriented than he is and focus on the tiny details better. Karim may have a different opinion. ;-)
We applied Modesta BC-05 Advanced Water-Repellent Glass Coating to the body and Modesta BC-06 to the wheels and calipers. We chose this combination with the client based on their desired look, performance, and wash/driving habits. This is the exact approach we take with every client and vehicle. We then cure all coatings via IR lamps over several hours.
I always like to end with some final shots, glamor shots if you will. Steve really takes his photography here seriously as it is one of his passions besides detailing cars. So, it's a shame that many of his photos are never seen. Well, here are some Mustang shots that everyone can appreciate. Scroll through and ENJOY!
