How do We Apply Modesta Ceramic Coatings for Wheels?
Applying Modesta Coatings to Wheels and Calipers:
Our Process
We recently wrote a general post about the benefits of ceramic coatings on wheels. In this post we discuss our specific processes and procedures for applying the Modesta BC-06 wheel coating to wheels and calipers. These processes ensure a strong bond between coating and surface, which enhances the look and performance.

1. Prepping the Wheels and Calipers:
- Cleaning: The first step always involves a thorough cleaning. Wheels and calipers need to be free from brake dust, tar, and other contaminants. If we are coating the calipers, then we also perform the same process on the calipers including a steam clean if necessary.
- Decontamination: Iron fallout removers and clay bars might be used to further decontaminate the surface, ensuring that embedded contaminants are removed.
- Correction (if necessary and if wheels are removed): If the wheels and/or calipers have scratches or imperfections, we use a light polish to correct these before the coating application.
2. Protection during Application:
- We offer two different coating options: 1) wheel faces only; and 2) wheels-off with calipers coated.
- This also allows for coating the back of the wheel and the full caliper, areas which can be hard to reach otherwise.
3. Applying the Coating:
- Once the wheel and caliper are prepped, the Modesta coating can be applied. The process usually involves using an applicator pad to apply the ceramic coating solution evenly.
- Multiple layers might be applied, with a waiting period between each to ensure proper bonding.
4. Curing the Coating:
- Like many ceramic coatings, Modesta coatings require curing. While some coatings might air dry, others need infrared (IR) curing lights. The curing process hardens the coating, ensuring its durability and protective qualities.
- Curing can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the specific Modesta product and the environment in which it's applied.
5. Post-application Care:
- After the curing process, it's essential to avoid any harsh chemicals or aggressive cleaning for a specified period (often about a week).
- After the initial period, routine cleaning and maintenance become easier, as the hydrophobic properties of the coating repel water and contaminants.
Note: While Modesta offers a range of ceramic coating products, it's crucial to choose the right one for wheels and calipers, as these parts face unique challenges compared to other parts of the vehicle.
Remember, while this gives a general idea, always follow the manufacturer's specific guidelines or work with trained professionals when applying premium coatings like Modesta.
